Breast implant scars can usually be very well hidden, and there are multiple choices to fit the taste of different patients. The first incision and resulting scar will be placed within the breast crease. These incisions are usually two to four centimeters long depending on the size of the implant.  If you go with a saline implant it will be filled once it is placed in your body and would require a smaller scar. This scar is positioned about a quarter of an inch above the crease making it invisible from most angles. You can also opt to have your breast implant incision made at the edge of the inferior areola; this would eliminate the possibility of a scar showing in a bathing suit or any revealing clothing and is typically about an inch and a quarter to an inch and a half. The potential risk associated with this incision and scar choice is loss of sensitivity in the nipples.

Another option for the placement of your incision is within the axilla/armpit. This avoids scarring of the breast completely, but increases the likelihood of revealing the scar when you lift your arms. This incision is typically an inch and a half to an inch and three-quarters.  Lastly, and certainly least performed, you can make the incision in the belly button.  Most surgeons avoid using this incision type due to its far proximity to the breast, widening the margin for complication. This incision is typically half and inch to three quarters of an inch.
